There comes a moment in a woman’s life when she realizes she has been holding on to something that has been slipping away for far too long. It doesn’t arrive with fireworks or shouting. It arrives quietly… in the soft, private places of the heart where truth finally settles without asking permission.
Dear Finally Letting Go,
I’ve heard your cry, and I’m here for you. I’m here to hold your delicate heart and the hurt it has carried for far too long, and place it gently into the words you asked me to find.
I’ll be honest, writing this letter wasn’t easy. This is one of the hardest letters I’ve ever been asked to write. But I made a vow to myself. When I heard God’s calling to become someone’s storyteller, I promised that no matter how difficult someone’s season of life was, I would do my best to put their heart into words.
Tonight’s request was a difficult one. But dear finally letting go, I hear you… and I’m here for you.
You loved a man who never fully came home. Your loneliness grew with each passing moment he chose obligation over love. You loved him through every hard season he faced, yet he could never truly choose you. He leaned on your compassion. He expected you to carry parts of his life he didn’t know how to carry alone. You gave away pieces of your life – pieces you will never get back – and yet, those very moments shaped the woman you are today.
Strong. Determined. A woman who has learned she is a priority, even though she has never been chosen first in any man’s life.
You’ve stood alone through some incredibly rough seasons. Waking up alone. Showing up alone. Wanting nothing more than for him to show up for you in the same way.
But you learned something essential: Love is not measured by how much you give. It is measured by how much is given back.
Now you are finally putting into words the truth you avoided for way to long. You can see clearly. You cannot build a life around someone who refuses to stand fully in it.
Every time he chose obligation, guilt, and unfinished history, he was choosing that life over the one he promised you. If he cannot let go of the things weighing him down, he will never fully be yours.
And so, you’ve chosen to let go. No drama. No fireworks. Just a quiet exit into the life you want.
You will be the woman he never forgets. If he is ever asked his greatest mistake, he will know it was losing you. But by then, you will already be gone.
Not out of anger. Not out of bitterness. Not out of revenge.
But out of clarity.
You have a life to build. Dreams to create. Goals to pursue. A future that cannot wait for someone who keeps choosing to be everywhere but with you.
Letting go doesn’t mean you never loved him. It means you finally loved yourself enough to stop shrinking for someone who doesn’t show up.
Tonight… and every day moving forward, you are choosing you. Tomorrow, you will wake up and face the world alone, something you’ve become accustomed to… and yet, you will continue to stand tall.
Each day moving forward, you will step deeper into the woman you were always meant to become. And it is in this season that you will build the life that has been calling your name for years.
When you finally let go, that’s it. And you’ve already begun to feel the shift.
You are the woman who carries herself. And now, you’re finally ready for what comes next.
So let this moment settle. Let the quiet hold you. Let the new chapter rise softly beneath your feet.
P.S. I pray I was able to place your heart into words… words that reflect what you’ve carried and how you feel. I hope I honored your story, my friend, because you deserve to be heard, seen, valued, loved, and above all… chosen.
Holding space for every story,
Dawna‑Rae 🦋
